- Brown marmorated stink bugHalyomorpha halysAn invasive stink bug from East Asia, first collected in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in 1998. In the garden it pierces tomatoes, peppers, beans, corn and tree fruit, leaving sunken, discoloured spots. Every autumn the adults gather on sunny walls and squeeze indoors to overwinter. - Chinch bugsBlissus spp. (B. insularis, B. leucopterus hirtus)Small black-and-white bugs, about 1/5 inch long, that suck sap at the base of lawn grasses. Patches go yellow, then brown, starting in the sunniest and driest parts of the lawn, and the bugs gather at the edge between dead and green grass. The southern chinch bug attacks St. Augustinegrass; the hairy chinch bug attacks cool-season lawns further north. Do a float test before treating: drought alone looks the same.Lawn & turf
